NO KIDDING! Probably the greatest title of a CharMar song since I'm Normal, Please Date Me.

I think we should start making up ideas on what it's about:

A song about dogs in the dog park
A song about cougars (not the animals)
A song about people in the music business
Charlie Sheen
What men want

Well, since the song dates back from 2006 (since it was written along with "Revival" and "Overcome" for Eve Ensler's "A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and a Prayer"), I don't think it's about Charlie Sheen - but you never know!

"Sluts & Bitches" videos for analyzation while we wait for Monday's release:

Live at the Highline in NYC on 10/3/09:

Sluts & Bitches (just the song)

Sluts & Bitches (with intro)

I think that was the third time she's ever played it. The first time was of course at the Eve Ensler event, and then she played it at a 2008 LA Obama Benefit show (located here on archive.org.)

I am SO EXCITED that this song is finally going to be released for reals, it's been five long years since I first fell in love with it. I am so excited, in fact, that I actually dreamed about the song last night! Ha. . . I'm a dork.

Okay, now I feel silly. It's out there already. Sigh.

Lyrics:

Whether it came from your heart or your stomach
I'm not sure if this really is the point
'Cause if you call me a slut to be smart
To your friends who think they rule the joint ...

And then you say that you didn't even mean it
And then you say that's the way your friends all talk
You can go tell them the sluts and the bitches
Are the reason that they breathe and walk

Should I run after bullets?
Should I howl at the bark of the dog as he whines?
I just might

So you got burned by a girl who was a trickster
Now every Sally to you's a rotten find
Better go bang Mandy Jay with the peanut butter parts
So you can taste her fine

Should I run after bullets?
Should I howl at the bark of the dog as he whines?
I just might

Can I take one more?
No, you can't take
When my fists are fooled
And suffocated
Suffocated
Suffocated
Suffocated
Suffocated
Every sick need for you

And if you say that you didn't even mean it
And if you that's the way your friends all talk
You can go tell them the sluts and the bitches
Are the reason that they breathe and walk

You can go tell them the sluts and the bitches
Are the reason they're alive at all

It's interesting that you mentioned it being a sequel to "I'm Normal, Please Date Me," though, SkekTek. "Sluts & Bitches" does have that similar cabaret-style feel to it. But lyrically, it doesn't have that tongue-in-cheek humor that "I'm Normal" has throughout. S&B has its funny moments, but it goes a little bit deeper than "I'm Normal."

Besides, the sequel to "I'm Normal, Please Date Me" is "Uncomfortable Things"! Charlotte, PLEASE, record that shit!

I'm always up for new Charlotte songs! Can't wait to hear this one. I remember seeing the title at the Internet Archive (I think) and always thought it was amusing.

Got it!

It's just her and a piano, so it's very much like the live version. Some of the words are a bit different, but it's still great. There's an awesome choral part at the end.

Just downloaded the song. I'm not gonna lie, while I'm happy she released a studio version of this, I'm not too thrilled with it. I almost fell asleep listening to it... it's so boring. She doesn't even seem like she cares about what she's singing... in the live version, there's fire & fierceness. In this one, it's just... dull.

Just my opinion.

How do I get the MP3 version? It's only giving me the option to download an .m4a version.

Can we possibly get a some consistency with these releases? No, I don't mean the time frame of the releases..I mean the actual files.

Videos:
1 .MP4 in a zip file (with no other file inside)
1 .MOV in a zip file (with no other file inside)
1 .MP4 by itself

Songs:
3 MP3s (the two that are supposedly B sides are tagged differently - always fun)
1 M4A

It's minor...but not all computers/players/etc like all formats..a little consistency so we know what to expect would be nice.

And that's likely all you're going to get. You're going to have to convert it yourself if you don't like mp3 I would assume.

i can understand why this song didnt end up on the album...it's so different from the overall sound of 'dancing on needles.' i remember hearing it at the eve ensler v-day event in 06. still...love that we get it as a b-side. more to come! Smile

Actually, numerous people helped me out and all is sorted.

Thank you so much for re-listing the new b-side in MP3 form! I downloaded it yesterday when it was in .m4a format, but I had complications during the second playback, when I noticed the file was only 4kbs (thus unplayable) on my portable USB drive. I'm not sure how that happened since it worked fine the night before, but I'm ever so glad that the song is in a better format.

I loved, loved, loved the last 2 songs (Where Do We Go From Here and Mrs. Blue), but I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I had never heard a live version before so I was expecting a little more with the title. Don't get me wrong - it's Char and it's still nice, but whether it's the production or the song itself, I wanted more.

I just noticed that the original m4a song on Band Camp must have been from a while ago since it was created in iTunes 6.0.4, which puts the recording of the song some time before March of 2006, when it was encoded. And to guess even further the first week or two of March.

It is very much an early Rarity cut, rather than a proper B-side (something that was considered for the album but cut for space/time), but I still like it. It's spunky.
